16 - 11 - 5 - done! we-are-out. and... f#%k the damn world cup...

no xenophobe, me - but the world cup? really?? and espn/fifa is really trying to push hard (yet again) for 'football' to latch on in da states? let me count the ways (why it won't/why it can't)... you know? forget it - at this point we are all too familiar with the easily identifiable reasons why - not. call me clueless - until now - but this past friday's match between the us and slovenia, and this disallowed goal... let me get this straight: the referee (unlike in any other legitimate sport that we know of) is not required to indicate clearly and unequivocally what the foul is and exactly who committed it? say what?? this is accepted practice? and the ref, upon review, is not kicked to high heavens out of the remaining matches? i-am-done. the world cup is done. fifa is done. espn's coverage is... d-o-n-e.

under the heading of "about time", kevin costner's "dream" machine is finally being deployed by our friends at bp to attack the oil spill by separating the oil from water. the machines have been tested and 32 have been provided by costner's company, ocean therapy solutions. this is part of the 'kitchen sink' approach to this spill advocated by myself, and involves a healthy dose of technologically advanced efforts to counter those archaic futile attempts of bp and the us government.

onto the game... difficult, in fact, torturous to watch such a dreadfully ugly (well, offensively anyway) game. kobe was horrid, most of the game served as a microcosm of all the selfish, excessive, 'it's all about me' things that has at times branded him - and what his supporters have tried, especially during recent years, to distance him from. gasol was almost as bad - it was clearly a case of the gravity of this game seven moment overwhelming them - it was painfully (and i mean painfully) obvious... missed makeable shots, all the missed free throws, rushed put backs, sloppy offensive execution... the only redemption was their defense (which did thankfully get more intense and relentless in the second half), boston's own missed makeable shots (forever grateful that you continued your crashing fall to earth, rayray), and LA's offensive rebounding. imagine - shooting 32.5% from the field, 68% from the free throw line - and actually winning the game/series/championship! two words: offensive boards. relief took the place of exhilaration. but you know what? 16th ring - over boston. i'll take it.

... maxwell - "stop the world"
